Who it's for

What kinds of operations do we power?

1

Sell from one country, show prices in your customer's currency

For example: your store prices and charges in your local currency, and a customer visits from another country.

When your store shows customers more than one currency, checkout uses the one they're already seeing, and decides which payment methods can accept it.

  • No mental math: customers see prices in their own currency, so fewer of them drop off.
  • Your payment provider only accepts your local currency? With conversion turned on, the method still shows up. Customers see their currency and pay in yours, converted at your rate.
  • Your payment provider accepts the customer's currency? No conversion needed. They see and pay in the same currency.
  • You set the FX margin: add a percentage markup to the rate and preview the result before you save.
  • Show the rate at checkout: heads off “I was charged a different amount” complaints.
  • Installments based on the amount actually charged, using the rates in your provider agreement for that currency.
  • Declared currencies, safe charges: when you declare which currencies each method accepts, checkout never tries to charge in one your provider can't process.

Requires Shopify Payments. Without it, we display prices in another currency by editing your theme, and customers are charged in your store currency.

Reach expats, travelers and international ad traffic without opening another store or changing your store currency.

2

One store, selling in multiple markets

Go to Currency and payment methods to set up checkout country by country, instead of using one payment provider for everyone.

  • Each payment method lists the countries it's available in (or International) and the currencies it accepts.
  • Installments, interest and promotions are set per payment method.
  • Customers can choose their country when you offer payment methods in more than one.
  • Methods that can't accept the cart currency appear grayed out and can't be selected, unless you turn on conversion and add an exchange rate.
  • Your admin list shows each method's country, currencies, conversion and status. Turn a method off to hide it without deleting it.

One Shopify store, with each market's payment provider, installment plans and exchange rate managed in GOnama. A good fit if you want to sell in more countries without running a separate store for each one.

Multiple payment providers per market

  • Higher conversion in every market
  • Run promotions even if one provider doesn't support them
  • See which provider has the fewest declines
  • Route payments based on your provider agreements
  • Take advantage of limited-time provider promotions

Not every payment provider supports promotions. Connect more than one in the same market to offer the best option in each, use Analytics to see which one gets fewer declines, and choose the one that works best for your business.

More benefits

  • Fewer declines from unsupported currencies
  • You control the FX margin
  • Local installments, even if your store uses another currency
  • One setup instead of one store per country

01 · How it works

Three settings decide which currency you charge in

Shopify sets the currency your customer sees. GOnama decides which payment methods can accept it. And when a method charges in a different currency, your exchange rate bridges the gap.

1
Shopify

Your store currency

Your store currency, plus any others you turn on in Markets. Customers see their market's currency in the cart.

What each payment method accepts

For each payment method, you choose which currencies your provider accepts, which countries it's available in and how many installments it offers.

Your exchange rate

Only needed when a payment method charges in a different currency than the cart. It converts the total at checkout.

Currency and payment methods · Exchange rates

The one rule to remember Customers are charged in the currency Shopify shows them. If your payment provider can't accept that currency, the method can't be selected, unless you turn on conversion and add an exchange rate.

Your Shopify store

Shows your store currency, the currencies you can display to customers and the countries you sell in. This info comes from Shopify. To change it, use the Change in Shopify and Set up markets in Shopify shortcuts.

Two settings become available automatically when they apply:

  • At checkout, use the same currency the customer sees in your store: available when you have more than one currency turned on in Markets.
  • Let customers choose their country at checkout: available when you have payment methods in more than one country.

In each payment method

Accepted currencies

Choose the currencies this provider accepts under your agreement. If you don't choose any, GOnama assumes it accepts all currencies.

We recommend selecting them. It keeps checkout from trying to charge in a currency your provider can't process. For example, Mercado Pago only charges in its account currency, and PayPal only in US dollars.

If the cart is in another currency, turn on Convert and charge when the cart is in another currency and the method is still offered, charged at your exchange rate.

  • Countries: choose where the method is available, or mark it as International.
  • Maximum amount: entered in your store currency.

Exchange rates

Rates are set against your store currency. Choose a currency in Add currency, then open it to set it up. In these examples, A is your store currency and B is the other currency:

Currency B1 A = 0.0248 BMid-market rate
Rate sourceThe daily mid-market rate (any currency pair), the Shopify rate for your markets' currencies, the Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU) rate for US dollars and Uruguayan pesos, or Manual.
MarkupYour margin on top of the rate, to cover your provider's or bank's spread. Can be a negative number.
Both directionsSee the rate both ways, for example 1 A = 0.0248 B and 1 B = 40.31 A.
PreviewShows a quick example, like "A cart of 100 A will be charged 2.48 B." If the number looks off, double-check your rate.

For automatic rates, click Update now to get the latest rate and see when it was last updated. Select Show exchange rate to customers to add a line with the applied rate at checkout. The amount charged is always shown.

No exchange rate, no payment method. If a method charges in another currency and there's no exchange rate (or it's out of date), it isn't offered to anyone. We never charge using an estimated rate.

Installments

Installments, with or without interest

For each credit card method, set the maximum number of installments, then choose for each one whether it's interest-free or has an interest rate. The interest is added to the total as a separate line, and customers see it before they pay.

Payment providers publish installment rates by number of installments and by currency. Use Load the rates from your agreement to pick the ones for the currency the method charges in.
